We hope that this website will serve our guests in their fishing needs be it information published on our fishing experiences in different locals along the gulf coast down to suggestions on places to stay. This website was originally designed with intent to publish and promote the success of Redfishteam.com and it’s sponsors. Tournament fishing is an expensive endeavor and the anglers of Redfishteam.com could not continue to fish competitively without the generous support of it’s sponsors.
The opening of the 2010 SeasonJoey and Jesse Romero started the 2010 season off fishing with the Cabalas’ Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) in Port Lavaca, Texas on April 17th. As usual, fishing this early in the season is as unpredictable as the weather. In the few days prior to the tournament their attempts to find fish south of Port Lavaca were futile. The steady winds and intermittent rain made for a frustrating attempt to find fish. The tides were running significantly higher than normal for this time of year adding to the frustration as the fish were spread out. However, expectations for the weather on tournament day were optimistic. The winds were expected to lay and the dreaded boat ride from Port Lavaca to Port O’connor wasn’t going to be too bad. Well, as mother-nature doesn’t always allow the weather man to predict her plans, as they headed out of the marina on Saturday morning, Joey made the decision to go north to avoid the brutal ride south. They had a few spots that had proved successful in pre-fishing for tournaments last year. After arriving at the first stop in the “good ol’boys” hole, Jesse quickly hooked up with a stout 23 inch red that would weigh in over 5 lbs. Throughout the morning, at multiple stops, Jesse continued to pull smaller fish in while Joey was trying to figure out why he wasn’t catching anything. After multiple stops along the Lavaca River, and a load of rat reds, they settled in to their last stop. Jesse continued to pull in the fish while Joey proved to be good at doing only one thing….netting the fish. On the second to last drift prior to weigh –in, Jesse hooked in to a larger fish that would later weigh in over 7 lbs. They finished the tournament with 12.59 lbs and took 6th place. Way to go Jesse on your fishing success. Hopefully Joey was able to learn a little from you while you schooled him on red fishing 101.
