Persistence Pays Off For Kohnert and Bishop

(05/05/07) Port Aransas, TX - Never give up. Those three words defined the day for Chris Kohnert and Trent Bishop of Redfishteam.com on Saturday during the Texas Redfish Series inaugural event for 2007. Unlike their previous visit to Port Aransas, the duo found the fish to be much more elusive. The team was within two hours of returning to the weigh-in empty-handed when their persistence finally paid off. Running out of time, Kohnert and Bishop found two reds that weighed in at 9.92 lbs.; a weight good enough to place them 32nd out of 103 teams.
“Trent and I never gave up. The fishing was very tough today. We worked extremely hard to find those last two fish. Although we would have loved to finish higher, this was a great experience. Neither of us were satisfied to throw in the towel”, said Kohnert. “This just shows you why you have to stay focused and confident up until the very end”.
“Some days you really have to adapt to conditions that you are not used to. Chris and I both agreed that we just felt a little out of our comfort zone most of the day. The areas that normally had paid off for us just did not produce. That can really affect your confidence if you let it”, Bishop said. “At one o’clock, Chris made the decision to go to a spot that if nothing else suited our style of fishing, and that decision was the difference”.
After back to back tournaments in Port Aransas, the team now has over a month to regroup and prepare for the second Texas Redfish Series event of the year to take place in Port O’Connor, Texas on June 16th.
