RedfishTeam.com Completes First Two Stops of the 2008 Season - Part 1

(April 6, 2008) Flour Bluff, TX – With what was billed as the largest ever redfish tournament in the state of Texas, the Texas Redfish Series kicked off the 2008 season at Bluff’s Landing Marina with a whopping field of 130 teams.  Due to the extremely large participation, tournament directors Scot Simmons and Jim Elrod decided to spice things up and make this first event a two day tournament, with the top 50 teams from Saturday advancing to fish on Sunday for the Championship.

The team of Chris Kohnert and Trent Bishop wrapped up Saturday with 11.96 lbs., a weight sufficient enough to guarantee a top 50 finish and advancement to the championship round Sunday.

Hosting a cameraman on their boat Sunday, the team struggled to find fish of any size.  “Trent and I found a school of fish very early.  We were able to land two of those fish prior to 9:00 a.m., but they were just not the size we were looking for”, said Kohnert.  “We spent the rest of the day catching small reds and simply ran out of options.”

The team ultimately weighed in 9.27 lbs. on Sunday which resulted in a two day total of 21.23 lbs. and a 45th place finish.

“It was tough fishing for us today.  Our hats are off to the guys who found those incredible stringers”, said Bishop.
